As Mumbaikars, we are proud of our city. In last few days we have learnt, or should I say, we have been taught a very good lesson on disaster management.
Monsoon is always a welcome sight in Mumbai after long, hard and humid summer. As far as I remember, rains have never poured with such vigor and valor. As proud citizens of India, we have always had an excuse and lets admit, we are the best at blame game and pointing fingers. Who should we be blaming for these rains and damage it has caused?
In US and Gulf of Mexico, storms of category 5 have been very regular, infact there atleast five in a year hitting the south east coast of US and pan handle of Florida. Cuba, and other Carribean Islands take a blow every year. How does their government deal with it. What are they doing different? Is there something to be learnt from them?
In my opinion, public is equally responsible for the crisis. We need more awareness, civic sense, respect for public property, knowledge of our rights, dismiss curropt civic and state authorities and contractors.
