I suppose it is a crime to be born a woman. I cannot walk down a road without being pinched, rubbed against or be made to hear disgusting, lewd comments. I really am speechless to know that the cop, upholder of the law etc, could actually rape a young girl in the middle of the afternoon in a police chowky located in one of the most busiest areas of Mumbai. Such incidents absolutely make me want to tell the police force and the citizens of Maharashtra to take a reality check and instead of worrying about the status of dance bars and other trivial issues, to look within their own organizations and do something about the terrible status of things. Absolutely shameful. We have a long, long way to go before we even come a fourth close to what cities like Shangai or New York are.

I have been in Mumbai for more than 10 years, and am shocked at the news of rape by policeman. And even more shocking is the what the author has written here about eve teasing. Pinching and other forms of eve teasing was unheard of in Mumbai a few years back. Some isolated cases must have been there, but by and large women felt safe walking out even at late nights. I have seen single woman walking at 1.30 night on the road. Compared to that woman in Delhi dont dare move out alone after even 8 PM. But if the author is true about mumbai then its serious and needs urgent attention. Police ofcourse needs to look in house and instead of giving excuses of VIP duties etc, they need to do something concrete.

I think you are absolutely correct. Even though I am a male,I am always concerned about my sister and friends. Sincerely i think every girl in India should have a gun. Just shoot off anybody who tries to assault you.
