This is not at all surprising. We are probably also the world's # 1 in rudeness, law-breaking, traffic violations, spitting and littering in public places, road rage, uncivilised behaviour, indiscipline, poor time management, and anything else you can think of that is the opposite of civility.
We are a nation of not just too many people (with the attendant problems that burgeoning population brings), but too many people who cannot live with each other. It is no exaggeration to suggest that the formation of India as one single country was a forced event. Left to us we will still be Tamilians different from Bengalis different from Biharis different from Maharashtrians different from etc etc, never capable of harmoniously living together.
So what to do?
Nothing. That's the way we are. Face it, deal with it, and live with it.
A fellow 'Indian' (and if you reader are not my religion, caste, state, language, then I hate you!)
P.S. : Tongue in cheek, but sadly mostly true isn't it?

fedralism is the answer guys , we need to be more fedral, states should be more indipendent , and influx of people from other states should be banned for good, that will keep thing good,

I think your comment is a stark truth that faces us. Very true indeed. Look at the Rediff Discussion Board itself. Most of the time, I find the actual agenda hijacked by the so called advocates of hindu/muslim religions and then they start bashing each other forgetting that it is India which gets bashed up in the process, not hindus/ muslims/ other religions/ other castes. WE NEED TO GROW UP. because united we stand, divided we fall.

Very true sanjeev. I wish every indian posting hate-comments on this site would realise that his comments are not against a Hindu / Muslim, but at its core , against fellow indians.
