The number, 32,719 is grossly misleading. Amongst a population of 120 crores, this number is fairly less. We must rather take the ratio of murders to the population than the actual number of murders. That would give us a correct picture.
Countries like Colombia, South Africa and Mexico have very less population. Hence, their murder ratio would be higher than that of India. Although Indians are no saints, it's still incorrect to call India as the crime capital of the world.

Yes the number of 32719 is misleading because it represents the reported number. I would not be surprised if the actual number is 5 times the reported figure!
