USA or any other country has NOT built a new nuclear [plant for 20 plus years.
South Africa is leader in coal gasification technology, WE enough coal to last us a hundred years. Also clean coal burning is 10x plus less expensive per KWH than nuclear power. Then there is the legitimate world concern of spent fuel waste, India will land up becoming the dumping ground of the world. Lets not forget Chernobyl or Bhopal tragedies. Indian life is considered to be cheap by the American companies.
As global player there are hundreds of other technologies and industries where India can make deals with USA and any other country. WHY this unifocus on nuclear deal??
USA has even opposed India's as a permanent UN security member. IT IS HIGH time India was treated as an equal.
The slave and white skin complex of the Nehruites will not let this happen.

Indian Political parties are only interested in power to fill their treasury. For this they do not mind misguiding people to any extent. BJP is in the forefront of all this. Its only strength is to trap people emotionally and come to power.
They talked about Ram for a long time and managed to come to power. They totally forgot about Ram while they were ruling. The 'Party with the Difference' was in news for all the 'Different' news! They proved that they can beat Congress with regard to poor governances/corruption in record time. If Congress could do it in 60 years, they are capable of doing it in 10 years!
They only bank on emotional issues. Ram Sethu, Amarnath Yatra and now Hindu Jihadis!
I completely trust Dr. Manmohan Singh. He is a man of integrity and knows what is best for India!
If India can not face the REALITY in the global arena our economy will be a hoax! We will depend on US and other powerful economies for our NSE and BSE boost for ever and ever!

No need to be so despondent, I also agree that India needs the west more than west needs us now. I am hopeful in the future it will change. If you know how bad our position was in 1947, you will realize that India has achieved a lot. India was an importer of food till 1960. India is improving a lot, and will improve. But I am afraid of the left and their offshoots naxalism will drag India back to agricultural era. Be positive. India has had 60 years of freedom, it needs more years to actually realize its potential.

if ur following usa great..then stop building nuclear plants..then u fools will not even have any processed uranuim for ur so called bombs...
without uranium u cannot even run ur plants to produce electricity..without usa sanction even russia will not give u uranium...even china has compromised its security testing rights and processed fuels to usa..thats why australians r giving them uranium..India is an poor country..we have no money even to put up nuclear plants..only usa can give us soft loans to even buy those plants..by the way americans are 200 yrs ahead of India in almost everything..specially techonolgy..so if they give us an 30 yrs old plant it simply means it will take another 100 yrs to even re design an similar one in India..after all have u ever seen an proper road in India which doesnt get damaged within an few weeks..this is Indians Indepth technology..ur basically forgetting that Indias sole nuclear reactor producing Bomb grade Uranium is CIRRUS..this was gifted to India by USA c/o Canada...so without knowing any stuff do not post stupidity...

you are the biggest joker. India is a small fish with huge population as its only asset. India does not contribute anything apart from export of labour. No science, no technology (only thing India can be proud of a little bit is ISRO and even in that China is way-ahead of India) India is learning now how to develop and improve. Under the circumstances India needs the help of US, Russia and other powers in science and technology. How much money does India give to UN very little, US contributes the maximum to UN Budget and thus it dominates UN. Wake up and face the facts, India needs to develop a lot more before being treated as a equal. If not for software services export(mainly to US and a little to Europe), high oil prices would have killed India as a nation. For US to consider India as a equal, Indian economy needs to much more stronger rather than being a preferred back-office of US companies.

You are the one who says in one post that India has "No science, no technology" and in another that Congress has done a lot for this country. If they have done a lot why is there no science and no technology.

Proud Hindustani has a point though I like to give a different take.
Yes prudent energy security strategy means that we do not pursue an unifocus strategy. Our policy should focus on a basket of diversified options may it be coal, bio-fuels, wind, solar etc. That's exactly India's strategy. It is not uni-focussed. Even in 2020, it is envisaged that nuclear power constitutes as little as 6% of all power generation.
One of the stumbling blocks for a permanent UN seat is our status as a nuclear pariah. The deal help us to get over this problem

I dont like any parties of India. All od them are immature at the least and traitors at the worst. However I especially hate the left. These ideological foes are the worst enemies. They want to stop anything coming from US even if it is good. We are not a slave of US. We opposed the Iraq war and did not send soldiers for that. However the nuclear deal is good and India should go ahead. Left was against nuclear testing in the first place, they were pro-china in the 1962 war. They are worse than Laloo, Mayawait and their ilk.

- When he say we have no science and technology, it's in relative terms.
See inspite of talent, eventually BCCI went for foreign coach and the result is showing in Indian cricket.
It's a process. A continuum.
We have good scientific talent base because of our education system. But we truly do not have great technology. We are just a "fresher" in every sphere. We have not reached there yet.
So we still need foreign support before we start claiming our place as equal.

ya India needs new technologies... and due to bad politics in India there is not enough research happening in India. This deal will also help in opening the doors to the Research in new nuclear technologies.
