Devdass - simplistic, misguided thinking. US republicans down the ages have tended to practice jiski lathi uski bhais politics, justifying it as real-politik. In their search for oil or other sources of political advantage, they created the Talban, the Iraq war, dictatorships in South America, etc. In turn these misaadventures have fanned radical Islam.

As a secondary point, ever wondered where does radical islam draw its financial muscle from? From countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran, right? So where do these countries get their money from - from oil yes? So how can you hurt Islamic militancy - how about my declining oil price? How can your bring that about? How about my massively supporting alternative energy sources? Logical no?

But the republicans believe in the opposite. Because the auto industry are major donaters, Republicans have consistently opposed measures that might reduce fuel consumption (hence demand and therefore oil price) including better mileage regulation and increased budgetary allocation to alterantive energy sources.

Republicans might like to talk tough - but there are a far bigger catalyst of islamic fundamentalism than Democrats. Mr Desai has probably been too busy worshipping Modi to realise this.
