Pkl. .D.goel, 12.40pm, Wednesday, Aug. 13th 2008 There is hardly another such an achiever as Manekda(Srijut SatyaJita Ray) who made cine films almost like moving cameos of Amar Sonar Banglo's Green landscapes...or Kolkata's bylanes and ghettoised Bengali Bhadralok's quest for respectability through word , colour , movement and grease paint on faces... It was in the best sense an excellent Aparojito the unvanquished despite zillion countre- temps of barbarised urban waste-land that is semi cosmpolitan Kolkata.. Not that Manekda did not face scorching Critiques as well,some from the initiated others who thought he was rationalizing and legitimizing Bengali passivity and reactionary poetising of the unwholesome disease of infected urban ulcers! One of them was actress Nargis who rebuked Manekda from glamourising deprivation.. D. Goel
