Sujatha - A versatile personality
by parthasarathy sarathy on Feb 28, 2008 03:29 PM   Permalink

Sujatha was the doyen of Tamil readers in the post - independence era. No one else did and could, compress nano technology, vital statistics of Britney Spears, Ramanujan's mock theta functions and a verse from ancient Tamil literature in three short pages so lucidly in Tamil as did Sujatha. His range of subjects, the racy style of Tamil that he wrote and the flair with which his pieces were written made each one a masterpiece. His collection of stories "Srirangathu Devadhaigal" is a tribute to his keen observation powers and making superb copy out of them. Modern Tamil writing, either of the flippant or of the intellectual variety, will never again be the same without this great man called Sujatha who strode the Tamil Literary world like a colossus that he truly was. May his soul rest in peace.
