Unless Hindi is modified or standardized it will be further alienate itself. Hindi today has drifted away from its Indian roots and does not relate to Indians of other languages. Hindi has become Urdu and is perhaps the most UnIndian of all languages. Hindi needs to come closer to other Indian languages especially of the Sanskrit group. There is hardly any difference between Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujrati etc when these languages stick to their Sanskrit roots. India's planners lacked vision, allowed use of multiple Sanskrit derivative scripts and a profusion of Persian & Arabic words, which was unnecessary. Indian education should have included texts on the commonness of Indian languages, encouraged study of literature of various languages and regions in school and a respect for all Indian languages would ahve developed. Instead, Indians kids today hardly have any knowledge of their native languages, leave alone other Indian languages and literature, writers, poets or history. Like most things, Indian planners messed up big time.
