Yes, I too am bowed down by the mass hysteria that Rajni's film and he as a person creates among his fans which I am definite no star in the world would be able to do. But I have never much liked his films because always Rajni the actor was nowhere to be seen or missing. Its been always his style, his mannerism and over the board hype being created by script writers and directors to show him as a God. But I certainly feel even if it was disappointing his mass fans, once a year or twice a year, he should have acted in such films where we could see Rajni the actor or atleast Rajni the individual. That is what should be the ultimate satisfaction any actor who loves cinema as an art seek. I don't know how many times I have seen Dalapathi and how much I loved the movie. All top notch artistes Rajni, Mammootty, Geetha, Arvindswamy, Mani Ratnam. I still feel Rajni's best was in Thalapathi. And if Tamil film industry really loves and respects Rajni they should make him immortal by giving him very good memorable characters and not just a stud hero. And Rajni too should understand that whatever makeup he does or the entire team tries to project him as young, there is a limit and one cannot always look young and play handsome hero roles.

Hi Mr. Jayaprakash Balan, I respect your comments on SuperStar and your thoughts on him. I would like to point few things which i thought i should after seeing your post. Rajinikanth as you said has done some beautiful roles in the late 70s and also in the 80s. Even in Thalapathi, he went with the script made by ace director Maniratnam. But at those times, he was just a Star just like KamalHaasan and others. But latter when he started givin commercial films like Annamalai and Baasha, which were most welcomed by his fans, not only by the fans but also by the general public(otherwise movies like those would have become like BABA), producers, directors and every one involved in the film started pouring pressures on this SuperStar, not a star by that time, to make that film hit in the BO. So it all boiled down to one individual. So i dont think theres anything wrong that SUPERSTAR like him wants to do commercials which will create a must return atmosphere. Even his fans and general public wants the same. One more thing i wud like 2 make here. Looking young is not in the make up that goes in the artist, by the way he handles the character at the age of 57 with ease.

This debate seems worth reading of all the others posted. I am not a fanfollower of Rajnikanth, but I can see how well Rajnikanth carries hinself as a performer. He is here to entertain and that is what his fans expect from him. He is trying to live to the expecatation of his fan followers. It is we the public who donot want the Actor to act , we want entertainment. A handful of people are there who really understand art and Rajnikanth one day would probably satisfy them also.

oh.. then dinesh u mean 2 say kamal is the god who makes tamil cinema exist nowadays.. u remember when aalavanthaan released, it neither fulfilled his fans anticipations nor public's anticipation nor it gave kalaipli thanu the amount he invested. u will say ppl like those are god of cinema only because he wants his face to be seen in diff make ups in each movie at the expense other's hard earned money??? crazy ppl!!!

No Sivaraman, agree to you,Last 25 years it is because of Rajini entire India is living. Music, Direction, story every thing is by Rajini. No other actor movie released anywhere inTamil Nadu. In all the movies Rajini came as he appears not even a single make up especially Sivaji, in all the songs he appeared as it is. Rajini is God! Rajini is next CM! next PM! next US president! Baba a movie after relaease of Aalavandhan made every theatre richer than Bill gates. The recent movie Kuselan is making all Kuselan into Kuberans. Ok?
BTW,No actor can be God. We are not fool to believe any actor to be aGod.They are just actors. But the quality of the actor matters.

even after baba release, he gave back the money 2 all those who suffered losses... ur so called QUALITY actor did nethin like this??? he'll produce all the commercials like aboorva sagotharargal kind of.. n for movies like aalavanthaan n dasavathaaram, he will seek someother's money..
my friend, all those who oppose rajini will b waitin eagerly 2 c his movies atleast 2 c wat he has done in tht movie.. thats the power of SUPERSTAR... i pity u after cin all those craps by you sayin pm cm us president etc.. thr r some ppl like u my friend who dont like the power n status of sivaji rao gaekwad in the industry.. nuthin can b done reg tht.. wat ever crap u post, hes the SUPERSTAR n no other can even dream of comin near him!!!!
