Let me try to describe.
Cauvery, the river originate from Karnataka, passes trough TN before reaching Bay of Bengal. The water from this river is life line for agriculture along the path of the river.
50 years back, southern states are formed on linguistic basis. Then started the problem of sharing water. Karnataka and TN have engaged in water sharing issue for decades.
Central government have formed Cauvery tribunal, to solve the conflict. Till now tribunal havn't passed effective verdict. Karnataka never abide by any interim verdict and TN never settled for fewer share.
When ever rain god punishes, this issue will be racked up to the center stage. That the way water sharing mechanism works out.
On 1998, elected governments of Karnataka and TN agreed on Hogenakkal and Bangalore drinking water project. As long as water is taken from the allocated share neither govt had problem with the water scheme.
Based on the agreement TN have started Hogenakkal water scheme. Now this opportunity is used by Karnataka's political parties to kindle regionalism.
Whenever this conflict against TN is racked up. Anti-social elements in Karnataka targets people from TN, and launches direct attack for no reason on Tamil film industry, by vandalising theaters.
Tamil film industry has protested against being targeted for any conflict between Karnataka and TN. On that occasion Rajinikanth, had used strong word against anti-social elements. But, as usual the statement is taken out of context.

in Kataka. As indians one should leave peacefully. not bully over others. If TN has right to protest every project offered by K'taka then what your problem if K'taka does the same ?????

why would peace loving Karnataka do a "Tit for Tat"? Do you really think TN started against KA ppl before KA against tamil folks? You haven't given the other legal projects that TN stopped.. Just statements.. no details.. BTW, My Kannadiga friends, "Odhai kodukkanum" is friendlier in Tamil than "Kicking" in English.. It just means that they should be "punished". Not literal "Kicking". It's common in TN. If you have Tamil friends, check with them.. We use it all the time with Kids. Who is Rajni to kick anyone? Guess he is playing a lot with his Grand-son :-) No need for him to apologise.. But if Kannadigas are really hurt, dear friends, we are ready to apologise. Let's get back to normal life...

Hogenkkal lies in the border and belongs to both the states. No one enters HK from KAR as no transport exists. Now you come and claim this is yours. Come and tell this at Dharmapuri if you have guts !

Whoever he would have said must be kicked, can he use such language. It is unbecoming to the stature of the man. Remember he earns his bread from our state also. In fact many people earn their livlihood from our state. The first provocative statement was given by Karuna, think about that, this was only a reaction. Tell me honestly, arent kannadigas in Tamil nadu, a part and parcel of tamil nadu. One simple question, do you broadcast all kannada channels in tamil nadu. The fact is no. Only sun tvs udaya channel is broad casted in tamil nadu. If a kannadiga wants to see a kannada film he has to come to Karnataka to see a kannada film. This bullying should stop. Now dont say that kannada movies are not worth watching. we had a good run of kannada movies recently and kannada movies are evolving. I am not supporting any violence, i am only saying that if karuna would have silently gone ahead with the project, then maybe there world not have been such misunderstanding. These are only reactions. Even in chennai, 2 restaurents by kannadigas were ransacked, many ksrtc buses were burnt, Do you own responsibility for this??

The Problem is simple... Whenever a river originates in a land and Mixes with the sea in another land..these conflicts are common esp.if the river is not that big. Regarding this proposed Hogennakkel project...Common this is intended to give Drinking water for nearby villages and not for irrigation project..How much water will it consume?
