The problem with 300 is precisely what u've brought out...in the end nobody empathizes with the characters - it's all visually stunning, and may i add, only! The trailer was awesome (i m one of the innumerable fans of the film b'cos of the trailer - watch it if u haven't), the movie isn't. It cud have been the gr8est action/war movie of all time (as imdb puts it, at the present rate it may surpass godfather) but, it sadly doesn't pose much to think abt. I'd say TROY was way better than this. But, don't be put-off by these remarks b'cos u may not want to miss out on the grand visual spectacle this movie is! Watch it for the sheer fun of marvelling at the digital scenery - and yes, try to go in an IMAX.

whooaa! not supposed to empathize...c'mon man there were spartans fighting for life 'n honour (even our gud old 'Border' was better in driving home the point and in a way quite similar in storyline) - why shudn't u be made to - there was so much scope for tht.
Secondly, does it really matter whether it was fact or fiction (rem. spiderman 1 - the movie answers my point)
It's a pain to criticize 300 but there's no denying tht the movie cud have been awesome all around. Alas! i've to side with Mr. Sen who 'i agree' generally gives bad reviews.

Actually this is not fiction.
The story of the 300 spartans is real. Leonidas and Stelios etc are real people who defended against the huge Persian invasion. The battle of Thermopylae is also not fiction.
