Well done Germany!!

I am happy that Water didnt win anything. Why always glorify poor and bad things about India. If Deepa Mehta is sincere, she should live in India and so something for the widows. Why run away to the luxary life in Canada. I hate these dual faced people. The west always want to see awful things about India and thats what she was trying to do. If you show anything good about India it doesnt make any news in west. And culprits are people like Deepa Mehta. She is NO Indian. Please everyone stop call her an Indian.

I have not seen Water so I do not know how good or bad a film it is. As an Indian living in India the one thing I have noticed is that urban middle class Indians simply do not want to face the reality of how majority of the country lives.
We wish to impress the West with our fancy malls and multiplexes while 50% of Indian children are malnourished. More Indians live below the poverty line in India than anywhere else in the world. Indian also has the largest number of children who have never attended school.
We are a poor country because for so many millions of people it is a struggle merely to survive. It is this aspect of India that interests the West and not the fact that we have Pizza Hut and Louis Vuitton stores. When we come across a child selling magazines or newspapers at 10 in the morning we dont give give it a second thought. To a foreigner it is highly unusual and the first question that crosses their mind is 'why is the child not at school'.
Making a movie about poverty or exploitation of children or widows does not mean that the above are being glorified. Movies critical of India need to be seen in India first, but to Indians like yourself, reality is best ignored.

As if the westerners really care about the poor and desperate people. Do you think the rich US people really bother about the high number of Iraqis being killed in a war started by their own democratically elected leader. Do you think the British will ever issue an apology for Jallianwala Bagh tragedy, as far as i know the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy was actually praised by many people in Britain. All humans everywhere are alike, driven by the need to protect themselves and their families first, they dont have the time to bother about other peoples lives. Reality is ignored by everyone
