I think you are mistaken in believing they want to be left alone. A "small private affair" because AB's mother is not well is what they have been saying. Can a wedding get any bigger than this? What have they not done? In my opinion the only thing that has been affected by his mother's illness is the excuse not to invite people who Ash has issues with - and I don't just mean ex-boyfriends.
