from wikipedia

"Telugu is the second-largest spoken language in India after Hindi. Telugu movie industry is based in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. Currently Telugu Film Industry is the largest producer of films in India ( Tollywood has overtaken Bollywood ). The total number of movies made in Tollywood in year 2006 is 243, followed by Bollywood (223 Movies) and Tamil Film Industry ( 160 Movies )"

NOt only more telugu movies are made but they are also more numerous than Tamilians

If we go by the number of commercial movies made in a year, then I agree with Bindaas Boy, that telugu movie industry is biggest in India. (bigger than hindi cinema also).

Most telugu movies are copied either from hindi or tamil. Tamil industry is older than telugu industry. No of hits is more in tamil than in Telugu or kannada..

check the site now. "This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards."
Any body can update it. I can put a wiki site and blaber. if no body else is interested in my wiki site, then it will have what ever crap I write. Meaning only if people of different opinions/views come into a wiki site, it will be more genuine.

Stop the war guys . both Tamil and Telugu look quite similar ... It doesn't matter how may movies your produce .. what's the quality of your movie is important, both industries produce lots of movies nowdays .. but story .. is missing .. only heavy violence and sex masala is the major content of the newer movie

This is India's problem.....
First People fight for their Language/State(Which they consider as mother land), rather than for India.

You live in Mumbai or MahabaliPuram, this complicated country is tough to Change.

"We built India, but not Indians". Probably Yes, Tamilians, Kannadigas Mallus etc

Aneesh

All this while India Board of Cinema fail to benchmark movie industries.. The body ranks each of these industries by quantity of movies produce.. By right, they should focus on the quality and also gross profit...

Bollywood : meant to watch for fun.. Most of the storyline similar.. Hardly enjoy waatching them except a few good movies like lagaan, humraaz, dhoom 1 & 2, don 2, kisna and krish..

Tollywood : realising its potential market is growing rapidly with more followings from canada and USA (even more response compared with hindi movies)

Kollywood : In a few years time will surpass bollywood with number of talented faces upfront the titans like rajini and kamal.. Among them are surya, vikram, ajith (huge overseas fans), madhavan, jeeva, bharath, arya, shimbu and jayam ravi.. Not sure about vijay to replace rajini, who is probably the last tamil superstar..
