Rationing of Oil
by rishi neema on May 30, 2008 12:15 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Dear All,

Everyone of you has given some interesting suggestions which can be implemented , but practically implication of this suggestions would be like discrimination of richer and poorer .
Where as our country being only one nation in entire globe who talks about equal right.

Hence I dont think we should go with this kind of suggestion.

Rather Rationing of Oil can be done same like Kerosine.

Depending on the family size quantity of petrol should be decided. Same like distribution of kerosine in India through Rationing shops.

At the same time any family requiring extra petrol can get the same on premiums.

i.e. If petrol is available for say 55 Rs. / Ltr. and the quantity for a family of four people is say 20 Ltrs. / Month If the family requires say 25 Ltrs. / month which means 5 ltrs. extra then the balance 5 would be available on premiums may be @100 rs./ltr.

This way country would save ample of foreign money , $ reserves would increase and would generate good amount of revenue for the nation.

Pl. comment on same if u do not agree with the same.

Thanks and Regards
Rishi Kant Neema

Rationing? Seems nice to hear...but..just imagine your office is 35kms from home...and mine is 3 kms...who would need more fuel?
Say if you need more for emergency..say someone is hospitalized and you need to shunt between home and hospital? Wouldnt your need suddenly go up?
Anything other than market driven (or in other words, need driven) is bound to cause trouble and result in rampant corruption.
The best that can be done is reduce the taxes on fuel ( which is more than 35%)...thats the best govt (state and center) can do for us..but is reluctant to do so.
And if they do so right now...they can infact keep the status quo on todays prices at the current oil prices...From here on let it be market prices...no complex cross subsidies..and over taxing the very same item to recover the subsidy in the process making it more expensive.

Rationing on fuel is impossible to be a reality. There are much better areas to control:
1. Ban all diesel driven cars private or travel agent. It should be only petrol driven and then increase petrol cost to double. Diesel vehicles should be only for public transport.
2. Use of generators except for public place should be banned.
3. Tax on private cars should be linked with it's running kms not yearly or life basis.
PS- I know nothing will change in India. We are wasting our time.

Though what you say may be a good idea in paper,is it possible to implement it in our country ridden by the most corrupt officials. As it is even now I see so many gas cylinders meant for the public being used by the hotel people even now. In this position is it possible to implement the rationing properly.
