Companies have thought of that in advance. They must have built in some kind of performance / target to teh salary structure, so that you'd lose money if you don't meet your targets.
Example is right there in the article: "and the monthly variable component of her salary has been cut by Rs 8,500 at least thrice for failure to meet the targets."
