The 1957 communist revolution under Achutha Menon government, known to be the best government Kerala ever had resulted in the distribution of land to the poor. This led to creation of a lot middle class in kerala. The eminent Kerala Leader EMS Namboothiripad, a Brahmin initiated the revolution. Though this resulted in the creation of some poor brahmin stories(as they lost lot of land and worked as pujaris in temple with low wages which we can see in some Priyadarshan movies like Aryan, Adwaitham etc...) but this was a major leap in Kerala history.
Apart from this, The christian missionories were more active in kerala and gave importance to the health and education.
This triggered the educated manpower and the 1990's rupee value depreciation only helped the NRI's of Kerala to grow further and send their hard earned income to kerala.
The Gulf helped Muslims to become rich and Kerala is one of the few state that has got one of the richest muslim community in India.
But ...its an old story ....Now ... Whatever government at present is of somewhat non functional...even if its Congress or Communist... So no comments on follwing the kerala model... it just evolved on that era ...
Any petty party can call a strike/harthal today in Kerala...

Arrant nonsense. The reason for prgress in Kerala was CPR (CP Ramaswamy Iyer) not communists. The Thiruvangur Samasthanam budgeted 15% of its revenue on education something that a socialist India never can even dream of. CPR's actions resulted in superior literacy rates in Kerala and also inculcation of fine arts.
It is a pity that CPR like most heros in India has not not the recognition that he deserves and charlatan communists and evangelical christians are walking away with credit without any meaningful contribution.
