When you don't have job for nearly 65 % of engg graduates ( leave alone the rest of population ), how come the young population becomes human capital. May this is huge capital for IT companies for their Balance sheet, but not for a country ?. Where do you find, basic facilities for this huge population ? You will conveniently put this as Govt responsibility ? It Seems Nilekani, thinks in the interest of Infy and a bunch of IT companies alone.

Of course population is capital..without population how will even an economy be stirred up? consider 10 people living amid huge resources..how many toothpastes do they need? 10....consider 100 people enjoying same amount of resources, their needs go up there is more economic activity. Properly utilized everything can be capitalized.

frankly, i dont get your point. he has a niche industry. its not his job to give others job. he's just stating his point. its upto to the people nd the government to see that they get a job by exploring new venues. we cant get a software job for all the teeming millions. rural areas can come on its own by generating jobs in niches there. but we have a standard lines of thinking - goto school, college after the same old standard degree apply for a job. we used to have doctors and enggs now we have software enggs.
we are happy within our cosy corners, and expect either the government to create us a job , or apply for the most popular vocation of our times. everyone else doing anything else does an "odd job" or is a wierdo, he isnt "dowry worthy" and "socially relevant" job kinds. damn shame that our soceities are so rigid, where there's total lack of dignity of labour!
