The Indian economy is the 12th largest in the world. That is, India's gross domestic product stands at $1.171 trillion. When we come to first place ? Already our democracy gone.. God have to save our country.

Hi Guys, Interesting to participate in the debate. As Girish Rao & Power India suggested, the growth will have a real meaning when the economic base is rised. The weakness of Indian agriculture is the profitability, anyway 70% of arable land is in big holdings. If they can turn them into profitable setups, the whole industry will look towards that like IT, Automobiles and real estate. The Manthra should be to convert the weakness to strenth. Attract the best into farm sector.

Its not about Hindus,Christians,Muslims,Buddhist etc. Its about INDIA. Unfortunatly people have become too zealous about their religions so that they have forgotten their fellow brothers. See we are all bricks that build this nation. No brick can build on itself but all needs to be stacked together in harmony so that it doesnt fall. We Indian's first need to change our mentality and have a positive outlook. Then being financially number 1 will not be a task but something which will naturally come by. Jai Hind

no country has enjoyed a smooth ride. Every country has to go through various stages. West has been through two world wars, great depression, 1970s stagflation, cold war etc. US has been through civil wars, effect of KKK etc. Yet due to continuous growth they have now reached a good position. Same will be the case with India with one diffrence, never in the history has there been a task undertaken to lift so many people out of poverty, it is a long uphill battle and it is a massive undertaking.

Why drag hindus here. You have your own white christians supressing blacks thorughout the world. They had to even have their own churches. And how is it different in India. Even among converted christians there is casteism. Even christians converted from the lower castes are not allowed to enter some of the churches. So dont preach, first practise. Will anyone of you marry among the dalit christians.

Varghese....I am surprised to see such irresponisbile statements from you. Racism & discrimination were rampant in every country, be it Europe or America. Christianity has nothing to do with it, you forget the Buddhists in Japan & our south east asian neighbours who have successfully transformed their masses. The problem with India is multi-fold, the least being people like you trying to invoke religious passions. What we need is a whole new breed of educated politicians, who bring about some professionalism to Politics

Why is it you are dragging hindus here. Racism is followed by chrisitans throughout the world to supress blacks. Even in india converted christians follow casteism. There are some churches where dalit christians are not allowed. For that matter how many of you will marry among dalit christians. So before pointing fingers, just practise.

Varghese statement is totally wrong and foolish. It it not because of a particular 'religion' that india is poor. But caste system itself is a part of the economic system. Only by changing economic base that we can change our society. It is interesting to note that most of the poorer states in India have concentrated least on land reform. Unless India can do something about land reforms about 70 percent of the people who greatly depend on agriculture will not go up in the economic ladder. whatever the goverment does in other sectors will have only a little effect on the society. THe development in other sectors except agriculture will make a section only very rich and the rich-poor divide will grow in India in the coming years. Also the crisis in agricultural sector will increase the flow of poor people to big cities and ultimately it will create tensions [both tensions based on regionalism and religious differences] in India.
