India's Oil Consumption
by Anand Wadikar on Jul 24, 2008 01:23 PM   Permalink

Our oil consumption could be drastically reduced if only the infrastructure is rapidly strengthened. The tardy progress in this direction in places like say Mumbai is pathetic. The trafic moves at snails pace on most roads, especially major arterial roads. The vehicles are made to crawl in first gears. Public transport like Buses and Suburban trains are no more made for even able bodied, you require real muscles to board and alight from them, forget comfort of seats. Project after project is announced, gets underway with a lot of fan fare and media glare. 'Bear with us for better tomorrow' boards start greeting us. But our pain continues for ages. Some times I wonder whether we are the same people who have created Mumbai-Pune Express way, Konkan Railway etc
