The ratings, figures of the world bank do not help to make any type of deductions in the matter except for a casual reading.Instead of also furnishing the position of important nations like Germany,France,Japan,Hong Kong, Russia etc,it just gave the figures here & there without any cohesion. At best, what one can deduce is that India's per capita income falls under the gradation of "lower middle" according to its parametres.Even this cannot be construed as correct since per capita income is in relation to the population ,the authenticity of which owes again to the genuineness of the census conducted which are always questionable. Further,in a country like ours where the income disparities are very wide and conspicuous with affluent like Ambanis, Tatas,Birlas on one hand and millions of people moaning under grinding poverty just beneath their shadow on the other hand, the per capita income arrived at by dividing the country's income by the aggregate population will not reveal the factual position obtaining in the country. Therefore, there is absolutely no need for us to take a sigh of relief nor to exhilarate that our lives have improved in real terms.Effectively,we might be continuing under the gradation "low income" only. When China, with its $2360/-of per capita income,is rated as 132nd in the world,we can well imagine as to where we stand. Is it not ridiculous if we flex our muscles with a loud claim that we are emerging as one of the super powers ridiculous,at this juncture?
