just wanted to know what is the last date of depositing self assessment tax? I need to file income tax return for assessment year 2008-09 and total payable tax is more than the TDS my employers have deducted. If I submit the self assessment tax before 31 jul 08 does that attract any interest also?

If the gains were made before April 2008, you will have to pay tax interest if you have delayed the tax payment till now. Self assessment tax can be paid anytime [these days you can pay it govt website for tax view credit card or band debit online] but its better to pay as soon as the capital gains come. you can use taxspanner.com site to see how much interest etc is expected on the tax payable
