To all you Indians who are Nano-criticisers, its easy to criticise something when its already done but it takes a Tata to have the guts to go ahead and do something new even when there are millions waiting to pounce on him(and most of them, just for the heck of it). And to those of you who think that the Tatas made it for money, I'd like to know What money-making are you talking about? How much do you think is the profit margin in a 1 lakh car? do you know how much money has gone into its RnD? Its in tens of billions. So, even in terms of business, its gonna take years to break even. Not to mention that the Tata group, which operates in everything from salt to trucks, is not desperate to make profits from such a venture. Its not that the Tatas came up with the Nano because they're going down or something. They are a 30 billion dollar revenue making company(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Group) folks. To top it all, the profit earned from any Tata venture doesnt go into Mr.Ratan Tata's coffers. 66% of their profits go into charity. I dont know about you guys, but it sure makes me proud as an Indian that somebody from MY country has achieved something which none of the so called giants of the US of A did. Period.

Yes, I believe you are 100% right.
It is truely a great achievemnt by TATAs. Engineering excelence at it's best! TATA's Enterpronureship is evident with this launch & an motivators for other budding enterprisers.
Even after param computer, pokaran, India is still seen as not qualified to competing with US/Germanies technologies. May be it may require many more NANO's to get rolled out.

Wonderful work Mr. Ratan! You have done us proud. The greens are not really concerned about the common man. Look at Al-Gore? He himself pollutes the quota of a 1000 people in other countries. Is he the ambassador for the greens? The Brits, americans, australians are all just concerned about themselves. We should not even worry about what they are saying. Good luck Mr. Tata. Eagerly waiting to see the Nano take a major market share.

I REALLY AGREE WITH YOU SIR.
TATA'S ARE BY FAR CONTRIBUTING MORE TO CHARITIES THAN ANY OTHER TOP BUSINESS GROUP'S OF THE COUNTRY,WHERE THE TOP INDUSTRIAL GROUP'S NAME NAME WAS NEVER ASSOCIATED WITH ANY CHARITY.
I LIKE TO ADD ONE MORE THING.
BUYING A CAR EVEN AT THE PRESENT COST i.e Rs200000/- IS NOT DIFFICULT TO MOST PEOPLE,BUT THEY ARE NOT BUYING BECAUSE OF OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE ROADS,PARKING.
SO NANO MAY NOT CREATE THAT MUCH PROBLEM.
ANY HOW DON'T CRITICISE BECAUSE OTHERS ARE CRITICISING OR FOR THE SAKE OF CRITICISM LIKE OUR POLITICAL "LEADERS" WHO ARE IRRESPONSIBLE AND OPPURTUNIST'S.
WE SHOULD CHERISH THE MOMENT A CAR PRODUCED BY AN INDIAN COMPANY ATTRACTED SO MUCH OF ATTENTION FROM videshi MEDIA.
IT SHOWS PEOPLE ARE WORRIED ABOUT INDIAN THREAT IN MANUFACTURING also ALONGSIDE OF SOFTWARE.
I AM PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN.
I WISH ANY INDIAN ENTERPRENEUR ALL THE SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE TO TAKE ON FORIEGN MNC'S.
