Hi Lakshmi,
I work as a Manager HR in a MNC.If you really need to advice your friend in undergoing an MBA program he should do it from a good institute.Merely to get a degree in MBA doesn't make much of a sense.According to me a MBA should be done properly by staying at an institute where you are given projects on case studies.Good institues generally overlook whats there in the course materials but focuses more on real life case studies on industries.Thats what IIMs do.I'm saying IIMs are the benchmarks but there are other good institues as well.Like SP Jain,Somaiya & the latest & the best & even somewhat getting ranked or rated above IIMs is the ISB(Indian School of Business),Hyderabad.Which is incorporated by the industry giants in India.Professors there would be a Ratan Tata or a Azim Premji. To my knowledge to get there one has to have a hardcore industry experience as a Manager in any field for the last 5 years. One might ask if somebody's already a Manager whats the need for a MBA?Need is there as this would be a turning point in their careers. After passing out the same people can expect atleast a Asst. VP position or Manager in an organization which would be of more sense than what he/she had in their KRA's being a Manager earlier.Exceptions are always there but this would really boost their career to the fullest.Ur frnd with 17 yrs of Exp. & then going for this would make more sense. But the catch here is what value additions he has in that 17yrs.Mail me for mo

I'd strongly advise against joining ICFAI as its more of a factory churning out people with MBA degrees rather than an actual b-school. You dont need much talent to qualify for admission to ICFAI. Not many companies recognize ICFAI as a b-school worth going to for placements. With his experience, your friend should attempt to enter ISB, IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, XLRI, SP Jain, XIMB or FMS only.
