Is Chandigarh an IT destination ?? AND if not WHY ?
by Arvind on Feb 25, 2008 11:53 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Why chandigarh has lagged ? STPI was started way back in 97/98, IT park was started in 2001, even then why it lagged, and cities like PUNE raced far AHEAD. Does it have to do anything with the SO called "sarkari" and dull attitude of people there, remember its capital of two states, so many sarkari offices.

Cities like Pune is educational capital of India wherein multiple education institute resides beside this its proximity to Mumbai has taken it up in the rank ahead of ChandigaD.I am sure you will agree with this.

One reason I found after talking to the founder of small software firm in chandigarh: he said he is finding it difficult to get sincere technical staff. people are more interested in things like "going abroad", "fun & parties", "non-pressure tasks" and "in-office-romance". staff recruited locally fails to be competitive and sincere as compared with bangalore or rather kolkata.

Man it all depends on the administration or the Companies who set up their shops-Maybe when these are favorable they will set up business in Chandigahr and eligible people will come there to work.Chandigarh is a well planned city and I see no reason for it to succeed.

Chandigarh is legging behind because it don't have International Airport.
And in North India Chandigarh is competing with cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Feridabad,Ghaziabad etc which are very near to International Airport.
