He might be king. But one thing he was a miserable failure in and might never get right is in the finance industry. McDowell Finance went down under (despite having 'doyens' like Mallya and TTK) and took with it hard earned money of gullible investors. The money apparently used to support supplier distilleries was lost when these distilleries went non-performing. While Mallya could have easily supported McDowell Finance with his thriving liquor business, he just let it go (so what, it was only public money, right?). Mallya might make pots of money, but God forbid, when he kicks the bucket, he wouldn't be remembered for anything by anyone, except by probably the disgruntled investors.
