noble and bill gates ? well, he's been instrumental in running a marketing outfit called microsoft. he's snuffed out competition at every stage. bribed people everywhere possible and razed competition through any means possible.

he's earned hi wealth by being a monopolist and forcing his own standards. purely from a technical perspective, his organisation has imposed proprietary standards and forced everyone to use thier software that are at least 4 times overpriced, besides being very very buggy and probably the single biggest cause of weak security practices.

bill gates, im sure would like to use microsoft's own software andget those villagers addicted to windows rather than the freely available linux. if he's so willing about charity, let him support linux which is free, and suppot the existing project by CDAC, and then pay only the money in installing the machines. is he THAT noble that he wants to actually help the poor, regardless of the operating system and software ? i doubt.

Well, my friend, think about it, which profit-making company does not engage into CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) for vested interests? Whether its to do with branding or familiarising their products to the common people or obtaining some govt. relaxation, they need to keep doing these stuffs. Doing it for a Noble cause is only one of the many reasons, the other interests are hidden in the background. How many are aware whether Linux supporters like Sun, IBM, etc have ever engaged into these activities here in India and at what places? How many know the name Richard Stallman or Linus Torvalds more than the name Bill Gates? There are many things to say against Gates and his business practices that may hold some truth, but at the end of the day, he is undisputably a reigning technology giant.
YamChuk - for a guy like Bill Gates, its not an issue to deal with the corruption. For these matters, money talks and he has them in abundance. On one occasion in the past he visited Bangalore and sanctioned Rs. 100 crores to Karnataka govt for AIDS support. Its is said, that the interest may be less for AIDS but more for the fear of Linux penetration in PSU offices. Fair or unfair, this is pure business. Love him or hate him, he is here to stay. I guess with Kiosks system, even M&M has attempted earlier for this, not sure about the stats with the same.
