Indian Pride
by on May 06, 2008 08:10 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Swati is a housewife. My son told her not to work because if you work, from whatever you earn, 50 percent will go in taxes and rest 50 percent will go in housemaids; very practical.

As a highly educated Indian woman, i am deeply saddened by this statement. Ok, maybe the dad is senile, in which case, he may be talking nonsense....but this is hard to digest. So assuming Vikram Pandit actually said that, what was meaning - that 50% of his wage goes to taxes, and the rest 50% to the housemaid, conveniently (practically) his wife?

Please, please treat the women in your life with respect, please.

I do understand where you are coming from. But i don't think they are trying to be just practical here. If one is aiming to be a CEO, it's very difficult to work and at the same time focus on kids/home. There is obviously no doubt they do have th option to be in a easier Middle Management role and share work at home as well. Most of the wives of senior leaders are either housewives or they are just single.
