I can't agree more with you sir. I have built and managed several organizations in India but i manage these teams remotely. I do have leaders in India as well. My key theme for the team is "MUTUAL RESPECT" - It is very important for us to know one thing: If you can't respect yourself then you can't respect others. So, we have to learn and practice how to respect yourself. I was able to retain a team of 50 people for 3 yrs without any issues. Team is extremly happy to work in the org where they are now. Many guys in the market place want to be a manager but lacking 101 of management. We have a horrible practice in the market place to change title to manager after few years of service - absolutely NUTS!!. Secondly, we have to be honest and loyal to what we do. There are people out there trying to backstab and take credits of somebody else's work and trying to go up in the ladder. They succeed in certain extend as well but oneday they will collapse big time. Why this is happening? rest of the team is not empowered to speak up. If anybody out there is reading this article and if you really want to become a good manager then please make sure you respect, be honest and loyal to yourself first and do the same to your peers and subordinates and higher up - even if you don't get a BIG recognition but you will become the best manager in this field.
