Why do IT companies need 335 acres to build their center of excellence? India is 7 times smaller than the US, has a population that is 3 times more than the US, way below the world standards as far as the standard of living is considered. Given all this and i am pretty sure that we are not a 100% dependent on IT for our subsitance but are in fact very much dependent on the produce the average farmer produces, why then do we need 335 acres allocated to an IT company? Does this smack of stupidity or smartness from companies like Infosys in trying to emuluate countries like the US give the vast disparity between the two countries. Could this not have been accomplished by just constructing a CoE in say just about 4 to 5 acers by building vertically instead of wasting so much of land? Why dont we understand this? - Mahesh (from the IT industry)

Infosys is shit company. Their employee to profit ratio is too bad. 60,000 employees and revenue of some 4-5 billion US dollars. I know companies in IT with around 5000 employees and their revenue is around 5 billion us dollars. In other words, this is not the company that IT is about..one day it will become a red giant.

If you what you said is true, my opinion that Infosys is not suitrf for Indian conditions is wrong. I was thinking exactly opposite of what you wrote - I was thinking it is generating huge income with less people. I am now glad to hear that they are employing a lot more people which means they are great distributor of wealth. Of course what Roopa said is right. But land grabbing is not limited to Infosys only. Almost all the major industries are grabbing huge land. I think the long term startegy of these comapanies is to really become rich through land rather than through production/service. However, I want you to look at hundreds of new companies each sitting on more land than Infosys in the name of SEZs. Government is grabbing (even fertile) land from farmers and giving it to Industrialists utterly affecting countries self-reliance on food.Ironically scientists like Swaminathan who were great contributors to Indian self-reliance on food are becoming Governments instrument for creating food insecurity. Only God (If there is such thing) can help this country.

Why targetting IT companies? Atleast they earn and grab the lands. What about politicians and corrupt beurocrats? half of bangalore is of different Reddys, Devegowadas and DK shivakumars. Any comparison between the two?

Roopa, you got it all wrong. India is only 3.08 times smaller than the USA. That Infosys is India's biggest land grabber is proved beyond doubt. Well, who can question IT Czars like Murthy? He would have sung the nation anthem in Swahili if his delegates were from Southern Africa. So too are the Ambani brothers. The biggest scamsters on the sub-continent.

Well three times or 7 times that is not question, Roopa has got the valid point. What a poor quality of life indians are living compae to west, and stupid country people are wasting the resources in making the "show" i think that the IT industries are producing the mediocre people so called engineers.. without good stuff in them... god bless the country.
