No Wal-Mart in India
by theproudindian on Apr 23, 2007 06:22 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Wal-Mart should not be allowed in India. I have been in US for two years and I have heard a lot about unfair trade practices of it. Also, recently there was a decision made where, Wal-Mart was asked to pay some million dollars for being indifferent to women. They were not paid their due wages according to their number of hours worked. Also, when they enter India, first thing they would be doing is paying much lower wages to Indian workers and most of all our nukkadwala kirana store will go out of work. We need to realize that that store is means of income for their families.

We should not just have Wal-Mart just because US has that. It would be better that our Indian entrepeuners come up with a business model in which small local stores can be absorbed into retail business and get their share of money.

Please please don't let Wal-Mart enter India.
