Infy is successful but the success is that of a successful DHOBI. Washing clothes for MNC clients. We would love to see Infy become Microsoft / Google / Yahoo and have own products to sell and not just remain a jobworker. All the best.

Ravalnath - Services is the key to Infosys success and its best in doing what it does. I see no reason why Infosys should do product development . Product development is about ideas which come out of creative genius of one man or many men together who think alike but complement each other. Infosys has done well with Services and process and its philosophy is to not have too many geniusses - basically folks who are hard working and not very ambitious. The chaps who will not rock the boat. Product development is about disruption. Its about challenging existing paradigms. Its about one man's passion to change the world.

If all companies go for building their own products, who will do the Services. Infy is a services based company not product based.
Don't know the difference between a DHOBI and IT Services???

Anonymous - Its not about building a product, its about the attitude and the will to do creative work, which Infy does not possess

Do you think providing services doesnt have any creative Work? Providing services and Building a product both needs creativity and innovativeness.

I don't think we can model our companies based on products as we have very few PhDs in basic sciences and engineering. We can do service model by luring people with money and career prospects but can't ignite people's mind towards creativity as that has to come out of a passion. Now it is the onus of engineers like you and me to make india a top class outsourcing destination and hope our offsprings to be in grown economy so that they can be more innovative.I always have a great respect towards infosys though i heard comments from people like you within infosys.

Mr. Ram, then why are you still sticking to Infosys? you always have the option of moving out, why dont u follow that. dont forget that at the end of the month, u draw infy salary, whatever it might be. n if u r so discontented with infy, leave na. I am very sure, infy will not have even remote negative impact bcoz of your leaving, rather they will be happy to have such people leaving this organization. Surely u r saying this bcoz u have not been working in any other organization. Think b4 u say.

Anu,
why does infy comes up with approach like yours.. If you dont like it, then leave it. Thats an approach which can ensure sure death of the corporation. Infy is still a kid in corporate sector and with such approach, it will die sooner than others.
as a good company, you should listen to employees and come up with resolutions and ideas to make the employee feel better..

Infy is a services company (producing coolies, dhobis etc etc) so what is baffling is not that they dont have a product but the reluctance to every try!!
Nilekani said in one of his interviews that in Indian dynamics, it is not possible to plan-fund-develop-manufacture-validate-market a product!
Maybe Infy should TRY to fund-develop-manufacture-validate-market ONE product.
