Outsourcing
by daltsis on Apr 12, 2007 04:50 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Outsourcing of American/Western country jobs to India is in a way big threat to India too. These jobs made lives of youngsters in major cities so lavish, high standards of living with easy & big money. This made the land prices go up so high for no reason.

If there is a sudden cut in salaries for those who got used to this kind of big money will be tough. I don't know where this will lead to...

My Suggestion for those who work in BPO (and those who get big money as mentioned here...) is that, try to save as much as possible, and in case something goes wrong (read as 'you loose your job') you can still live happily with the saved money.

The problems of land prices and such other issues is not becoz of outsourcing, but its bcoz of our selfish and idiot leaders. They have not at all done the decentralisation of Industry and have put all new industry very near to the existing one. That is what has caused land prices go high, and created problem for everyone. The only ppl who got benefit of all this mismanagement are those politicians who grabbed lots of land in those areas or those already rich ppl who keep buying land without any need and just keep increasing th prices. Still there is no control over it and everyone is putting all his money in this land business. People are putting lotz and lotz of effort in this malpractice of "buy-increase price-sell land" and doing nothing which could be really productive.

Yea Kirti - you are right. It works for you - as people lose jobs, they will stop eating out at fine dining places and come back to your Udupi hotel. Obviously you are upbeat. ha ha.

So what exactly do want the companies to do, cut the salary. The current salary level in India is all basic economics - demand and supply. Now the main fault is with our industry's reliance on IT and ITES services for foreign revenue. Indian industry needs to spread the risk across all sectors. To your complaint that land prices have gone up, the BPO jobs are not alone to be blamed. There are other reasons:
1. These days housing loans are more easily available compared to what was 7 to 8 years ago. These loans have opened avenues for a larger number of people to buy a home.
2. Most Indians have resorted to Nuclear family model as opposed to traditonal joint family, resulting in need for more housing.
3. Population explosion has put pressure on land, which results in higher land prices.

BPO jobs have done more good than harm for the indian society in general. The guys who say that BPO jobs are giving young people lavish life should also be aware of the fact that even Hardcore IT sector is doing the same,at almost the same age.Why is it then that nobody complains about IT changing the life of people but just BPOs??? Moreover with the amount of jobs beinf made available by ITES like BPOs ensure that a lesser number of skilled people stay unemployed.
Where would have the people working in BPOs gone had there been no BPOs.
I have worked in BPOs for roughly 2 years and I know it for a fact that so called outrageous spending power and other such terms apply only to hardly 5-10% of people..The remaning are level headed people who are responsible towards the society and their family... Blaming BPOs for High Land prices is a completely cynical statement..Criticise BPOs if you want, nobody can change your opinion, but if you get a chance,do work in a bpo to see for yourself what kind of processes one has to go through to reach the kind of so-called 'lavish' position..
Personally I have stopped even bothering myself trying to look at only the negative side of the BPOs,without even considering once, what it has done and how it has changed the lives of people,in a positive way.

When we understand that any type of outsourcing of any kind is harmful to the Nation itself and it will lead our Nation to poverty within few years?

Yes, there should not be delay at all to face the giant ghost deep rout at once before it swallows us all and our Nation and our resources. Firstly we understand that what is this outsourcing and how we are gained selling out our low cost raw materials from our resources, giving cheap labour and infrastructural facilities spending low cost of their place is total ruination of us. Therefore, at any rate here in India, we do not allow such practice. Let us produce all the things on demand and we only decide the price of our products.

Globalization and SEZ then only we have to accept if they are totally under our control. We can business with any other countries, whereas outsourcing from end would be a harmful phenomenon.
