In India, problem is not economics but politics
by Sankar Mitra on Jan 07, 2008 05:57 PM   Permalink

The analysis is based on wrong assumption". The US crushed Japan & then rebuilt it and found Japan was beating them in their own game. US surely did not like it but could not stop its growth. Same is likely to happen for India and China provided character of their people are as strong as the Japanese. Natural wealthwise, Bihar is richer than Japan. But is Bihar anywhere near Japan? It is the character of the people that makes the difference. There is no dirth of talent in India, which is being proved by our youth who are studying or working abroad Same talent would have been rotting if they did not go abroad. Indians are buying foreign companies on a regular basis and barring Tata and Birla, most of the big houses have amassed wealth in one generation which is not a mean acheivement. But all these are getting nullified due to corruption. The whole subcontinent is corrupt, hypocrite, violent and intolerant. People of small character can never acheive anything big and that is our problem and nothing else. The bulk of the population is corrupt, not the politicicians alone. In 16th century, the three super powers were Turkey, India and China, when queen Mary was wooing these countries to allow UK to do business with them, which was finally allowed during Jehangir's time. After Aurangjeb's death in 1707, Moguls did not have a strong emperor and that resulted in rampant corruption and we all know the rest of the story. In 1790, our share of world's GDP was 27% & that of UK -2%.
