Money value
by Suresh Kumar on Mar 13, 2006 04:05 PM   Permalink

Your article is good, but like many rediff articles you've used the same currency and varied denominations to express values. What's the point in using Rs.10 Lakhs and Rs.1 Million alongside each other? If a person knows Rupee's value, he's very likely to know what a crore or a lakh is too, why express the same in million and billion? What you can do however is, use the conventional model Rs. -amount- ($ -equivalent-). This way those who aren't quite able to picture the global value of the amount (because it's given in rupees) can weigh the value if given in USD in paranthesis.
This has been the convention so far, rupees are expressed in Lakhs and Crores, Dollars are expressed in Millions and billions. And to be safe you might want to give key to the scale used, at the end of the article. Instead of doing a simple conversion in each and every line.
