Walmart's entry could create competition
by Mallaiah Anchoori on Dec 08, 2006 05:56 AM   Permalink

Walmart's parnership business entry into the Indian retail market is, no doubt, a welcome thing at least in one aspect. There is a dire need to check the unethical practices resorted to by Indian retail traders-especially in regard to the price fixation and the quality of the goods sold. The customer service too is awfully bad- especially where the traders enjoy monopoly of the product/s.Advent of Walmart into the retail market will certainly keep the fellow merchants on toes and spurs an awakening in customers leading to establishing of the forgotten and well accepted canon-customer is always right and they cannot be fooled. But it is a million dollar question as to whether Walmart could succede in Indian market where the consumer mind set is tuned to a sense of complacency and reconciliation and regulatory authorities gloss over the happenings for obvious reasons.
