Whither Rural Innovators?
by Dr.A.Jagadeesh on Aug 25, 2006 08:54 PM   Permalink

I read with interest about the innovators from rural India and their innovations.I am a disciple of late Prof.Y.Nayudamma who brought in paradigm shift in the science and technology when he was Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research during 70's. The Concept of TECHNOLOGY WITH A HUMAN FACE advocated by Mahatma Gandhiji and Dr.E.F.Schumacher's philosophy of SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL has still great relevance to developing countries like ours especially in rural areas. Through "Nayudamma Centre for Development Alternatives"which I founded in Nellore,Andhra Pradesh I have several inventions like Simple Solar Drier,Everybody's Solar Water Heater,Energy Saving in Electric Pumpsets,Pedal operated Battery charger,Pedal operated washing machine,Clay covers to reduce heat in concrete buildings, Device to drive the motor cycle when it is punctured,Air-cum water cooler,Fire proof Apron, Periscope to avoid accidents while overtaking vehicles ,Innovative Solar Disinfection of water etc., ,The efforts of TePP,DSIR; National Innovation Foundation, Rural Innovations Network in supporting Innovative ideas and projects is laudable.
