False Propaganda
by RG on May 17, 2005 04:49 PM   Permalink

What Dean V Kalyan Ram says is false. Most people are opting to stay back since aid for M.S is not forthcoming in many US Universities. Ppl who want M.S/Ph.D are lesser in number than before. Plus, all those who have taken up jobs stick to it for 1 or 2 years and then, they either apply again to US universities or go for an MBA . So his figure of 40% would have already come down to a 10% and if you consider MBA as a Brain Drain for an Engineer whom the govt. invested in, that 10% will also vanish off. And finally, the same people after an MBA go abroad to work there.......
So what is present is still present in the same numbers, if not more, but just that the timing has changed instead of immediately after graduation to 1/2 years after it.
Lets accept the fact instead of cooking up wrong figures.
Plus, most of these IITians work for MNCs like IBM, Intel, GE,Oracle, etc in a non-engg. related field mostly at a cheaper rate. So this is actually worse than Brain Drain.
On returning back to India, only the 'incapable' ones for family sakes, etc come back, the capable ones come back only after their productive age to retire peacefully. So we lose anyways.
This is my personalopinion
