hi!i am very much interested in chip manufactuing and i am planning to do a computer engineering from the US and wanted to know if even comp engg have a role in chip design or is it in the domain of only eleectronic engineers

If you think that you will take some course that will prepare you for a chip design job, you will be dissapointed.
Chips cost $1mn or more to fabricate, so as others have pointed out in this thread, companies are very reluctant to take a chance on someone fresh out of college.
The most important thing is to get experience. Take as many courses that require hands on project work as possible. Work with FPGAs. Many universities have partnerships with chip fabs, which will allow students to make test chips. The more experience you get the better. But, be warned, the chip industry, at least in the U.S., has been a bad slump of late. It may still be very difficult to find a job, at least in the US.
