The basic idea is that caste and regional politics have prevented India from being what it can. If we really hate the caste system we should have completely banned it- ie. make it illegal to mention and/or refer to your own or anothers caste. Then you could make reservations/quotas based on a fair criteria like financial background. I know this sounds extreme and is likely impossible. But without eliminating any remnants of caste we will fail as a society. Everyone will try to get their caste to have more 'quotas' and merit will not be rewarded.

Has anyone read the news came in Indian Express about a dalit murdered in Allahabad. The only crime he committed is that he dared to clear engineering test and he was first to do that.. Even that could not be tolerated by these castist people..
