1971 war
by Deepika on Aug 16, 2007 01:20 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about 1971 war. This is the war which has created more problems for us than any of the other problems combined. Firstly, we made permanent enemies of pakistan and even Bangladesh. Pakistan started supporting the separatist movement in Kashmir (terrorism) after 1975. And about 160000 or 100,000 Bangladeshi refugees, we already have them in our country. They are all here doing the lowly chores, terrorist attacks and also increasing our daily crime rates. Every year the govt finds them and packs them off to bangladesh free of cost and they enjoy their trip home and jump back over the border to create problems for our people. For the newest attacks in hyderabad and other places, Bangladeshi links have been established.... there is no way to identify these people because no records exist and once they come to the cities they call themselves Bengalis!!!! A weak admin in bangladesh is definitely harming us.

You said 1971 war created more problem for us.we made permanent enemies of Pakistan and even Bangladesh(East Pakistan).
If it is so. than why did we had 1948 and 1965 wars? Do you know when Kashmir problem started? Within in one month of OUr independance. So to say we created enemy from 1971 is completely wrong. Pakistan issue is there since independance.

Madam,

There is no denying the fact that INDIA suffered due to Bangladesh War.

Here we are talking of 5 decisions that changed India.... hence the mention of Bangladesh War.

You are right in pointing that it had done us a lot of harm... but the act had to be done... there could have been problems of different sort if it had not been handled this way.

But its not Bangladesh War this is subject matter of this discussion..

More on it when we discuss that

Regards

Made permanent enemies of Pakistan after 1971? Can you tell which times before that Pakistan was friend?
Also there were millions of people from Bangladesh running to India before 1971 supporting which had become a major problem and beyond resources of India.
BTW, this forced migration was one of the reasons of the war. Please study some more on this war and you will know.
Had Bangladesh not been created, there would have been much more problems like terrorism on both sides of India, huge immigration attempts from Bangladesh etc..

It is a trade-off. You probably think East Pakistan would have been more friendly which is highly unlikely. India would have been probably much worse off. Bangladesh has no axe to grind with India whereas Pak does(Kashmir).

your ignorance is glaring!

Pakistan did not become a permanent enemy after the bangladesh war! they were already a permanent enemy. Are you forgetting 1964 and 1947? If anything the 1971 war weakened pakistan to the extent that India could focus on its economy.

Bangldesh has become an enemy only now, due to rising islamic fundamentalism. We were good friends throughout the 70's and 80's. Times change, it is time we treated bangladesh accordingly.

Do you know the '100,000' and '10,00,000'? we had 10million refugees come to india in a period of 9 months in 1971 !! What makes you think india was capable of hadling that?? More importantly about 1 million people were brutally murdered in bangladesh in the same time. That means at a faster rate that even hitler!! How can you condone staying quiet??!! It was probably one of the few genuine decisions taken to go to war.
