I am a Computer Science graduate with distinction from a reputed college in Mumbai University. I have been working in Tata Consultancy Services since past one year. When I had joined the company, I was quite certain of getting a development project as my programming and analytical skills are quite good. But due to some unforeseen circumstances I was forced to take up a 24x7 support project. I was told my Project Manager that the project entails development but after getting into the project I realized that it doesn't. Besides some basic Unix Commands which anybody can mug up, my project hardly involves any technology to boast of. Only thing we are supposed to do is to monitor email queries and work on a predefined set of rules to resolve them. It hardly offers me any scope to demonstrate my skills. On top of everything the rigor of working in rotating shift is taking toll on my health too. I spoke to my PM about not wanting to work in the project any more but to no avail. He is not ready to release me from the project.
I have made up my mind to leave this company by the end of next month once my appraisal is over (I will have to break the 2 yr bond). I have not yet applied to any other company. Do you think I have a chance of landing up a better job in another company with just 1 year of experience. I wish to project myself as having worked in development project to my prospective employer. I have obtained certifications in Java and Oracle and have a sound technical knowledg

At the outset, i would like to inform you that in any company like this will happen. You need to talk to your immediate boss, if he does not listen take this matter with superior, but do not think you will get a better if you change your job just for the sake of this project. You need to show your skill in other areas where you can fit in and grab that type of project . if you do not talk nothing will happen. If your employer feels that your service is important they will not let you down. Work in the same company gain knowledge use your skill everything will be solved.

cool bloke, now that you have decided to quit, make sure you dont land up in the same situation in another company. check out smaller companies, which are niche players in one industry. this will give you an opportunity to develop your technical and domain skills, and it will help you in the long run. A person who can give technical guidance, understanding the client's domain can grow to be a consultant. so, pick an industry that interests you, and look for small companies that do exclusive work. i know of a few companies like that.. you should try googling on it! best of luck!

good advise... cool bloke..that's why people who have started their career from biggy companies, could not change for over a long period....i know many guys who are working for more than 8-10 years and they are not getting good salaries in comparison of less experience resources from smaller companies
