why dont they spend all that money on destitutes, old age homes and orphanages ? they will surely get publicity and satisfaction and God's blessings too.

Which God? Ummm, no thanks. You spend 24 hours of your day serving destitutes? How about the time you just spent here, you could have used to serve one orphanage in the meanwhile.
