I drive everyday on the NH commuting between Gurgaon and Noida. The highway is great and is supposed to be a facilitator for smooth and fast driving. However, that is impossible. A few examples for the reasons why:
1) Autos and buses drive in the middle lanes when they should be on the extreme left 2) Cars driving at 50 kmph are on the extreme right ensuring that faster vehicles have to overtake from the left 3) During hours when heavy vehicles are allowed, all lanes are occupied by trucks 4) Drivers, when they receive calls on their mobile phones remove their foot from the accelerator and slow down drastically as if their hand which holds the phone and the foot is surgically connected
In short, driving is a risk.
The only way to get these people to mend their ways is not by fining them piddling amounts or confiscating their licence. Drivers on trucks, autos etc will just go back to their hometowns and get a fresh licence issued. The only way is to fine them stiffly.
I know…..I was fined twice on the DND flyway (Rs. 900 each time) for speeding and now I get paralysis on 80 kmph on that road, as I do not want to be penalized a hefty sum again. Now of course now that the authorities in all their wisdom has reduced the fine to Rs. 100, all is well with all the road hogs of Delhi NCR.

Good Note-All drivers in India must be forced to under go computer test driving.The Licence issued only for such tests are to be recognized.All driving licence MUST carry 4penalty spots with Blood Group.W/o passing computer driving test no licence to be issued.All such drive tests are to entrusted to Qulaified private cos under Govt rules and regualtions as each test will be different under software with 1million choices.Out of ambit of RTO.but secutity checks of people must be doneRTO to only carry out national security threat perceptions and related activities--Again money will play but Simulated drive teat passing is only on teh candidates--Corruption will come down--if not eleiminated as RTOP and Indian Police will any bloody Bribe Sad case !! All aged and ill health drivers are to be weeded out and HV trucks cum bus should be under such qualified drivers including autos like middle east all learners cars must be under Stringent approvals and all learners have to under go drum test/ Weave tset for motorcycle and NOT driving in colony roads and getting passed!! The whole licence system must be changed to stop issue to any under age under qualified people Huge fines must be imposed-TrucksBuses-5000/ Luxury cars-8000/Autos 2000/- 2wheelers 2500/-BCD grade cars 6000/-per accident/penalty Drunk driving and killing-- licence with draw and imprisonment for 10years like USA Drunk driving caught withdraw licence with peanlty running into 33% of registered value of vehicle.
