Credit Card Fraud
by Anirban Sarkar on Sep 28, 2007 04:27 PM   Permalink

Having worked for long in Credit Card companies in India and abroad I can give you some quick tips and advice which can reduce the chances of fraud transactions on your card(I can't obviously say these are golden rules and will prevent you from fraud but these can definitely make you less susceptible to fraud):

1. Be careful while using your card online. As far as possible avoid public computers while making online transactions. Try using secured network or your home computer. Please keep powerful anti-viruses in your home computers(keep an eye especially for malicious "Trojan warhorse" spywares these can pass on your information to third parties)

2. There is always an amount of risk in using credit cards at petrol pumps as they can easily invert your card and note down your CVV number. These people anyway have your credit card number and expiry date on the chargeslip. Most of the petrol pumps have ATM machines anyway. So its safe to withdraw cash and make payments.

3.Keep your pins only to yourself. Don't store it on your mobiles or write it down somewhere.

4. As far as possible try using credit cards in places where they swipe it in front of your eyes like stores and shops.

5.Keep your credit cards safe and always with yourself.

Its not easy to follow these steps always. But the more you do them the lesser are chances of any fraudulent activities on your card.A plastic is an extremely useful tool but can cause a lot of trouble without safegaurds.
