The sad fact is that we are increasing the number of institutions and number of students in the existing instituions, but quality faculty is lacking. Teaching has become an unattractive profession with the best brains opting for industry. As genuine academicians stay away from these institutes, they gradually become "unacademic" and eventually "anti-academic". Already this is the state with many (but not all) of our universities. The government has done no good by using its authority in posting heads for these instituions according to its whims and fancies with no genuine consideration for merit. Eventually, if things go this way, we will end up with a large number of IITs IIMS just like our universities.
