Ofcouse Rashmi is not goping to respond to my comments she keeps on harping about IIMs in all her articles. A whole industry is built around coaching for CAT for not so sucessful students otherwise who consider clearing CAT and getting in to a B school a moksha from otherwise bleak prospectus. I am not counting those here who consider management degree as a mid carrier shift. First thing management institutes teach students is to build an image for themselves and create a brand value, No MBA from any institue will berate his institue in public for this reason. IIM and IIT is not comparable at all, IIT brand is well known around the world were as IIM piggyback the same brand value by virtue of 2 How pompous IIM alumni can be understood from this gem in the article ."Most of us really don't care about any of these grand plans, except the bit about IITs and IIMs."
IISc Bangalore is best example of PPP , It was created by Jamshetji Tata 100 years ago and has contributed more to nation building then all IIMs put together.
Real output of IIT and IIM is to create coolies for MNCs . Yes there are some IIT alumini who are sucessful in silicon valley but there is an equal number of non IIT garaduate indians who are sucessful as well. Also those alumni who are sucessful are not totally beacuse of IIT but because of post graduation course and Phd done elsewhere. You are spot on Amit. Of course she wouldnt reply. It needs hell a lot of arrogance (or is it plain ignorance?) to proclaim " Most of us really don't care about any of these grand plans, except the bit about IITs and IIMs". Who are these "us" Rashmi??? Any one who can think a bit rationally will know that the most important plan is that bit about "6000 new high quality schools". That is what will make a real difference to India. And by the way what is the contribution of all these so called "hitech" iits towards research? How many of the IIT faculties have proved their worth in their field?? Go to IISc or even that modest Central Uni, Hyderabad (but then they are out of the radar of most of Rashmi's "us"!) you will find people who really mean something in their field minus all the pomp! And you will see people who didnt even have access to real good schools coming up with real worthy ideas. ANYONE who has access to sustained coaching can clear JEEs and CATs but to prove ones worth with new ideas one needs some stuff. And IITs and IIMs do not give that nor can one assume that those who get admission their have that stuff by default! The contribution of IITs and IIMs towards the field of engineering and management is nothing when seen against the pomp associated with these institutes and the amount of money that is spent on them.
