Quality & Quantity
by Kumar on Feb 15, 2007 06:16 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I'm surprised that a CEO of such a leading corporate insisists on 70-80 hours of work/week. Work should be need based, quality oriented and not quantity oriented, as the emphasis is more on quality than on quantity that is stressed by most IT majors. I'm not saying you should not work hard, but working productive is different, and beyond a certain limit, too much work is also boring, thereby reducing quality of outputs.

Quality and Quantity are both inversely proportional to each other. Reducing one will always increase other. Making a good balance in them is an efficient work. Many a times it is also noticed that if any work is interested and creative man can work upto 20 hours a day, but under the condition of refreshment and not lasting for many days.

The concept of Quality and Quantity is gaining acceptance in India only because of outsourcing and globalisation. These are concepts prevalent in the western business world to a large extent.
To make it big in a challenged country like India we need to give out Quality for 70 hours a week.
Please do not forget that the above article is meant for entrepreneurs and not people who are satisfied with working for themselves their whole life, getting their children married and enjoying their retired life.

You forget one thing! These days whether you are employed or whether you are an entrepreneur, the sense of entrepreneurship has to be there to be successful. It does not matter whether you are employed or of your own. This is also a philosophy driven by several MNC's which asks their employees to think that they are the owners of the establishment and take decisions and work accordingly. I am surprised how this aspect is not understood by many!

I beg to drastically disagree with ur view point.. The mindset required to be successful in job and the one required to be a successfull entrepreneur are diameterically opposed to each other. While u need a distructive attitude for job, you need a constructive attitude for entrepreneurship. And about the MNC's, even there u have the same Indians working..!!
