Having a foreign degree definitely helps as much as getting a degree from one of the top institutes from our country, but it does not always necessarily mean that it will be a launch pad for big things in career. Few good things first, the pattern or structure of syllabus in the West aim for more practical analysis and insight, whereas Indian syllabus educated people are the masters of theoretical concepts. Thus the mindset/way of thinking/approaching a problem or situation varies in this angle. But then our brain does not necessarily get tuned just by the syllabus, but rather by experiences that we gain along the way. Cmon, lets not blame our syllabus. After all, how many people have we known close enough have gone to big length in their career after having graduated from Indian institutions. True that foreign universities have good R&D labs etc, but then we also have institutions that equal the R&D facilities abroad, though we have to admit that they are only few, not as many as it should have been. Foreign degrees might help in the initial phases of ones career, but if complacent, could be overtaken by the lesser known mortals from the ever green Indian Universities!!!
